Default Am I crazy??? Can engine covers make a difference?

I took off my plastic engine covers on the passenger side last night and I feel like the car is faster--could it just be more air to the Fujita intake is helping me get off the line quicker? I feel like it is just abit more responsive..... or is this just my imagination?

I hate being at 7,000 feet--you guys think your IS250 is slow, try this altiude! Cannot wait to move to San Antonio in a few months--hear they have oxygen down there!

I dont know if it makes the car any faster but i also took off mine on the passenger side because i felt like more air would get in my Fujita intake, i put it on saturday just to drive up to the car meet but i will definitely be taking it back out......

I have a feeling it's imagination...

Most of the useable cold air is coming from the front snorkel which directs cool air to the intake. Removing the side panels should not have a major impact.

From what I've been reading, the intake is already sucking in as much air already so removing panels or adding a ram air design won't improve anything.

Perhaps, you're stepping on the gas pedal harder after removing the side panels.

I've been driving with and without the covers off and on dialing in my coilover dampening, and have not noticed anything but additional in-cabin audible grunt from my SRI.

^ lol!

Yea that TRD sticker adds a good 20hp. And the weight saved from losing the engine cover would amount to another 50 or so!

Or maybe, just maybe it really is sucking in more air. Think about it like a house, if it's windy outside and you open the front door, obvously air is goin to come in, but if you also open the back door, 2x more air starts flowing.... Anyone here a firefighter ?

That would be the case if taking off the cover exposed a whole for more air to rush in by. However as others have stated this is not the cause as the only source of air is via the grill front snorkel
