Default Tpms

Can anyone assist with activating the TPMS sensors for a second set of wheels? It's for a 2010 Lexus IS250 AWD with 20" Vellano wheels. And does anyone know how to upload photos on this website, I've tried several times and had an error message every time. Thanks.

You need a programming device to add a second set of TPMS... lexus and toyota dealers have them, and some, but not all, tire places have them.

If you mean they were already programmed, but aren't registering, you can switch between set 1 and set 2 using the multi switch (the thing that looks like <0> to the lower left of the steering wheel)

How much should it cost to get the dealer to program the new sensors on my wheels. I was told by one Toyota dealer they would have to pull my tires off the wheels to get the serial numbers off the sensor. A friend told me all that isn't necessary.

The dealership is correct they do have to pull the tire off the wheel. I was charged $80 to have a second set programed and new tires mounted and balanced.

You don't have to take the tires off the wheel if they have a scanner that can read the numbers. Discount tires/america's tire can do it for $20.

Yeah, depends on the equipment they have.

Older ones just programmed- you had to have the serial #s in front of you to add them.

newer ones can read the sensors when mounted to get the serial numbers.

As to cost, yeah, I'd expect 20-40 bucks at a tire place... at any dealer probably more like $55-110 depending if you hit you for 1/2 or 1 hour of labor.... and those are assuming you have the serial #s written down, or they have a newer device that can read them off the sensors while mounted.

I just got my second set programmed at discount tire. No need to take off anything or need for any numbers if they have the right tool which most likely all of them do now. Plus the guy was nice and did it for free
