Lightbulb OEM HID output?

Hey guys,

I searched around and couldn't find much - does anyone know the output of the OEM HID bulbs in the 2IS? I'm looking at the GaraX or Philips bulbs and I want to step up in the lighting department a little. The OEM bulbs just don't cut it for me.

Thoughts?

step up in what way?

lumen output: stock 4.3k puts out the most lumen

color: go with 6k they look real nice but be sure to change your parking bulbs to led to match.

It's not the bulbs but the projector themselves that suck. 4300k is the best bulb for output which is why alot of manufacture use them standard on oem.

it seems the stock HID's are weak to me in terms of range - do any "upgrade" bulbs offer greater visibility and color? do you recommend the 6k Philips or GaraX?

So regardless of temperature output, the 4300k is going to be best for range with our crappy projectors?

If you want better range /width out of you headlight only way is to retrofit.

past 2500k, color temperature is inversely (negatively) related to light output.

as color temperature climbs, light output drops.

Philips is better than Garax.

Which could help is to actualy modify your fogs to HID projectors then it will be powerful. I'm currently getting my retrofit which is a work in progress since I already have HID fogs but now just getting the projectors.

Not much, without doing some modifications. The 2IS headlight housing is quite shallow, which is why the projector uses a side-mount bulb. Personally I find the light output to be quite acceptable.

Retrofitting in a projector with better beam will usually require the loss of AFS (if you have it), and you will need to (in most cases) cut a hole in the back of the headlight for the bulb.

No thanks.

^Yup... I thought about a low beam retrofit, but I don't want to cut up the housings/loose AFS.

In the future I'll retrofit my fog lights.... I think that's the best/easiest solution to add more light in front ...

i just put HID 3000k fogs. REALLY bright, hahaha. but probably blinding people.

its to compensate for my 8000k low beams.
