Unhappy Weird Immo? Issue

Hi all,

First time poster long time listener.

Just started having a weird issue with 2nd gen IS. On completely random occasions when I press the ignition the car goes completely dead! All electronics will not operate and the immobilizer feels like its holding the wheel and brake pedal feel locked. After between 2 and 15 minutes it jumps to life and everything except the ignition turns on. When this happens the clock needs to be reset and the tach and speed warning settings need to be rest.

Anyone ever see anything like this?! I wonder if I need a new battery but it starts right up when this issue doesnt occur.... looking for someone smarter than myself to throw in their input.

Thanks in advance!

I would check to see if both your battery and alternator are charging properly. I HATE wiring/electrical issues!

If the tech/speed needs do not sweep when the car turns on - that would be the first indicator that hte battery is most likely having a problem; could be alternator as well but check battery first.

The clock reset to 12:00 also is a sign of a battery issue. Check the battery connections also then you need to have it load tested.

It is the original battery so it would be about time for a replace. I might just replace it and see what happens. Minimal investment and couldnt hurt right?

These cars are real battery hogs. I had similar issues on my wife's Murano when the battery was going bad.
