Great thread. My grey seat is turning blueish, i guess because of my jean.

 

For Collen!! Question, Does anyone know if you could dye the seat in a diffrent color. i.e, from grey to black? Thanks in advanced

Yes, they can easly change colors... but when you start to look at matching the plastic trim, etc... to do it right can get expensive.... Just to touchup with the exsisting colors is much simplier. Just make sure it is someone who knows what they are doing... I've dyed many seats (used to restore older BMW's/Volvos) and my first few dye jobs were not pretty.... I got much better with pratice though

 

I think the color matching took about 20 minutes, the dying about 30 minutes and the drying before getting in another 30 minutes, not much overall...and looks great. this is the second car i have had dyed to keep looking new....also covers cracks and makes it look better overall, esp the bolster areas.

If someone can post before and after pics going to read up more about how long the re-dye seats last.

Done properly, a redye should last as long as the first dye job. Sadly a lot of places just do a minor clean and spray... Check out leatherieque. com (not sure of the spelling) for details and supplies....

 

Why do u guys call it dying, when they're actually painting it, dying the leather is a much more complex process that involves dipping the Hyde

 

I've always heard the term dyeing, never heard of it being painted as part of the process. When Lexus hired an upholster to repair a rip in my passenger seat I asked the guy about it and he suggest I "re-dye" my seat to remove the jean stain and small imperfections.

I had the seat cushion and back dyed. To make sure I didn't take the car before the interior was dry I had them do an oil change and something else. This way I had an overnight loaner.

I would not switch colors. Most of us have perforated seats. How can they consistently get color in the holes? Parts of our seats are leather and parts are vinyl. For $100 you have nothing to lose.
