If you really need a car now, I'd get an 08+ used model. Can be had with low miles fully loaded for around $25k+.

I was kinda in the same situation as you. Wanted the 2IS since 06 and when I finally afford one last year, I was worried that the new model would come out soon.

So I figured I'd buy a good used one and then see how the 3IS looks and trade in if I dig it.

If I'm seeing it right, the Japanese ad shows only two motors, a 2.5 and a 5L V8.
Wonder if they would be dropping the 3.5 in favor of a blown motor?

If you wait, you've have a looooong wait ahead of you. The 3IS is nowhere close to being ready. Lexus seems to be stretching out model lives far longer than it has in the past. The GS was supposed to be a 2012, now it's a 2013, there isn't even a new ES with the Camry debut, and nearly nothing has been seen or mentioned about a 3IS (don't believe the above photos for a second). They facelifted the 2IS for 2011, which means there's a garanteed two model years worth of that to get through before they retire the tooling and release the 3IS.
So, get the '12 and enjoy. There will always be a new car around the corner for all of us to wish upon. Can't live like that.

How much longer than in the past? If we include other countries:

The 1st Gen LS lasted for 6 model years.
The 2nd Gen LS lasted for 7 model years.
The 3rd Gen LS lasted for 7 model years.

The 1st Gen GS lasted for 5 model years.
The 2nd Gen GS lasted for 8 model years.
The 3rd Gen GS lasted for 7 model years.

The 1st Gen SC lasted for 10 model years.
The 2nd Gen SC lasted for 10 model years.

The 1st Gen IS lasted for 8 model years.

Including 2012, the 2nd Gen IS will have had 7 model years. I'm not saying it's not due for a new generation (which will probably come for model year 2013), I'm just saying it's par for the course. Lexus could still do another year after 2012 and have only matched the 1st Generation IS.

Don't wait, get the 2012 F-sport now. There are always some new cars coming up soon and there is no ending. And once they come out, you would worry about the first year bugs, then what, wait another year? Then the 3rd gen Infiniti G would arrive. The cycle goes on and on.

It sounds like if you're even contemplating this, it's a purchase that can wait. In that case, it would be better to wait until the 2013 model comes out regardless of whether it's a refresh/update or not, since at that point prices on the 2012s will drop significantly.

Life is short. Screw waiting. I got tired of waiting. You will never have the newest anything.

just grab the 2012 or older, most of aftermarket parts are already available,if you wait for the re designed IS,might wait for months for the aftermarket parts to be develop, that if your planning to upgrades-just my opinion
