Default Advice for an IS rookie

Hey all! Brand new to CL, really excited that I found this last night!

I just got my new obsidian black 2011 IS 350 with the F-sport package and I'm absolutely in LOVE with it (had an SUV for 8 years with none of the awesome gadgets my new 'beast' provides).

After doing some research on here last night I finally decided to make the plunge and purchase the F-Sport cold air intake from Sewell (even before my tint! :/) which I'm really looking forward to installing.

I'm here kinda looking for advice from you IS veterans out there on other mods I should get. (note: on a fairly tight budget so nothing too crazy).

I'm looking into exhausts, and I've heard great things about Sewell's f-sport exhaust (paired with the f-sport intake) but as of right now I am in no position to spend that kind of money on that. Is there any comparable exhausts that are priced less harsh?

Other than that, any recommendations on other mods (not limited to performance)?

Thanks and looking forward to learning from you guys!

-Ryan

Welcome to CL...

Where's the pic? People will doubt you own a Lexus until you supplied a picture.

Do a quick search and you'll be surprised about the information on here. In terms of exhaust, it boils down to sound. Sound wise, it's similar to HKS. In fact, Lexus HKS used to be the official aftermarket exhaust until Lexus decided to come out with F-Sport line. How do you want your exhaust to sound? Loud? Quiet? In-between?

Don't forget suspension mods... sway bars make a noticeable difference by reducing body roll. Members will suggest a drop/lower.

Thanks bud, appreciate the fast response. I'll post a pic tomorrow after a good wash, I don't have garage privileges where I currently live so the trees have been shedding on it.

I'm not really sure how I want the exhaust to sound, loud but maybe not too loud, but for sure not quiet.
I have heard good things about those sway bars though. I'll look into those.

Congratulations on your new car! Can't wait to see pictures.

Lowering your car makes it look a lot better. That's the first thing I did. You can buy some lower springs which don't cost too much relative to something like an F-Sport exhaust.

Welcome to CL. I suggest the Tanabe exhaust cause it looks similar to the F Sport and is about half the price. Did you register on Sewell as a CL member? They give us a discount. Use the search button using key words to answer your questions prior to posting a thread. You may find your answer. Congrats!

Correction for rookieIS
There is a norcal lexus car club
Under the home page go to "forums"
then it should b the last one that reads "local chapters & regional forums"
there u will find people close to ur area and perhaps u can go to one of their meetings if u want
I suggest at least introducing urself on there

Welcome to CL! Congrats and yes post some pics. Exhaust, there are many options, what do you like, loud or subtle sounding exhausts? Many people including me will say lower the beast. Sway bars will greatly reduced body roll, I highly recommend them. Steering damper is a cheap mod that will give you a better steering feel.

I think tints and a drop (coils preferably) make the biggest visual difference. To be honest, intake should be lower on the list. I'd definitely go dxhaust before tinake, Tanabe or F-Sport probably. Check the classifieds for deals on used parts.

Tints is a must! A drop as well but since my own IS is my DD I haven't taken the plunge to drop it yet. Like many said before me, a steering damper is one of the best mods you can do to your car. And if you don't have a navi you might want to look into the aftermarket ones, I know they're starting to be way more polished than when they first came out.
