Default License plate bulbs

Does anyone know what the OEM bulb is for the license plate bulbs? the reason I ask is because the OEM license plate bulbs seem really nice and white as apposed to alot of other cars i see. I see some people who upgrade the bulbs but then it doesnt look as nice as the OEM ones that come with the Lexus. Just wondering what bulb these are?

For the 06-08 cars, the bulbs used for the license plate is the 168 type. However for the 09+ cars they use led's however they changed to intergrated an assembly unit, therefore it is proprietary and irreplaceable unless you replace the assembly unit itself.

Thanks for your reply. If the 06-08 ones are 168 type, how comes they are very white as apposed to orange bulbs that they usually are?

Default Plate bulbs

I think I read somewhere that 06 and up IS models are all LED type bulbs and they are not easy to replace because they are intergrated as part of the assembly unit.
They may not be irreplaceable unless you replace the assembly unit itself.

Just my $0.2

It may already be an LED bulb already in there that is 168 compatible. If not, could be a high powered halogen in there. I did not really pay attention myself since I used to have an 07 car and they were already white to begin with.

Actually I take that slightly back. I think in fact the 06+ are actually integrated. It appears that the Sylvania Automotive Guide maybe incorrect unless it can be confirmed.

Also looking at the Sewell Lexus diagrams, they all point to the integrated assembly.

It is an integrated LED for all years and it's the same one. There's no bulb inside and for those whose bulbs went out, they need to buy a whole new assembly which is $80. I looked up Sylvania's guide and it did say 168. I got excited to make it whiter and brighter so I went ahead and took apart the trunk only to find out there is no bulb inside. But I did install new LEDs in the end.
