If you change the oil every 2 days it still comes on every 5k if you don't manually reset the light. If you go 20,000 miles without changing it, but you manually reset the light every 5k it still only comes on every 5k.
It has no clue whatsoever the actual state of your oil other than if there's too little in the car.

I'm not saying that you guys are wrong, just going by what I've seen and experienced.

It has no connection, at all, to how you drive, or when the oil was actually changed, because it has no idea about those things.

Fact: the service reminder light for Lexus and Toyota vehicles on 2004 and newer models operate at 5,000 mile intervals regardless of driving style.
And FWIW, every 3000 miles is a lot too often for every single 2IS I've ever seen that actually sent their used oil to blackstone labs for analysis.
