Default How to remove double side tape left behind

I removed a bootlid spoiler that was mounted with the 3M tape but the tape has stayed behind on the car body.

Can anyone tell me what is the best way to remove this?

Googone works good, and heating it up with a hair dryer first will save you alot of time and energy.

Park it in the sun for a couple hours and use 3M adhesive remover and a hair dryer or heat gun.

+1 on the Googone. I find it works pretty well. Park the car in the heat, wait for the area to get hot, spray it on there, let it soak in. You should be able to take it off pretty easily after a few minutes of waiting.

I'd just caution to be careful with solvents like Googone, etc. The standard recommendation, and this is super important for highly visible things like your car, is to test it first on an inconspicuous area. In this case, I might recommend testing it on the trunk lip you just removed. This will enable you to ensure that the solvent won't take off the polish/paint of your car along with the tape.

You also have to be careful when selecting what solvent to use. When you buy toothpaste, you can be assured that they're all just going to be toothpaste and will clean your teeth. With solvents like this, they might be placed together in a store, but they can be of vastly different power and abrasiveness. Googone is fairly mild and generally won't harm plastics and other finishes. However Goof Off, which in the store is placed right near Googone, will mar plastic and will absolutely start eating through your car's finish.

So my recommendation is just to be very careful.

Spend the money on the 3M adhesive remover if you have quite a bit to remove. Worth every penny. Goo-gone is def not as good.

(Exp: Personally used on firetrucks with brand new paint jobs)
