help! (driver side squeak noise)
hello im new to this forum. i recently bought a used 08 is250. it came certified from the lexus dealership. ive had it for about a little more then a week now and today i heard a tiny "squeaking" from the drivers side. i usually drive with my radio on and windows open so i didnt notice it at first. but when i turn everything off only while in motion i hear the noise. any ideas would be appreciated! thank you!
It's the plastic peice that goes around your gauges. To test, hold the bottom of the top of the dash. The noise will stop?? The screws need to be tightened up. If you search around there are quite a bit of rattles in our cars.

If you bought a CPO car, just take it back to the dealer and say 'fix the squeak please'. Make sure you can recreate it when you go in - sometimes the noises change depending on the temperature (warm, cold, expand & contract) so go soon while the temp is similar to what causes it.

They should. My local Lexus dealer did similar work without question several times on two different CPO vehicles. It's not the Lexus tech's favorite thing to work on, but they were generally pretty good at fixing my problems.
wow thanks ill check it out as soon as i can. also do i have to go to the dealer that i bought the car from to do the service or any lexus dealer can take care of it because its a cpo..? and lastly, do you know where i can get a set of all weather mats without paying too much? sorry for the annoying questions.....

Yes, you can go to any dealer but you may find the dealer you bought from is most inclined to do little stuff like this. Both of my CPO vehicles were bought at different dealers than the local one I take them to for service, so it's worked fine for me.
Try using the forum search feature to look for threads on all weather mats in the second gen IS forums. There are loads of them. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/search.php

Squeaks and rattles are typically NOT covered by the CPO warranty. That's because the CPO warranty doesn't cover interior trim pieces, which are what cause the majority of squeaks (the dash pad, for example, is an interior trim piece). So if this squeak is indeed the plastic piece around your gauges, this will NOT be covered by your CPO warranty.
The reason I know this is that I bought a CPO IS350 that squeaked like crazy on the test drive. I pointed it out to the salesman and he said "Oh it's CPO, so just buy the car and get it fixed later under warranty." I didn't trust this, so I did my research and called around, and Lexus confirmed to me squeaks and rattles related to interior trim pieces are not covered. I did this all before I bought the car, so I told the salesman I'd buy the car but he'd have to promise to fix all the squeaks and rattles goodwill (which he did).
So long story short, the only way you're going to get this repair covered is if a dealer does it goodwill for you, which means they don't get reimbursed by Lexus. To do CPO warranty work, a dealer identifies a problem, verifies it's covered with Lexus corporate before performing the work, does the work, then gets reimbursed by Lexus corporate. In this case, this repair is NOT covered, so Lexus wouldn't reimburse the dealer.
Your best bet here is to go back to the selling dealership and complain. Dealerships are usually pretty good about handling complaints about recently-purchased cars. If it's relatively minor, they should take care of it no problem. I would highly doubt any other dealer would fix this for you because, as stated above, it would be out of pocket for them and they'd have little incentive to do so since you didn't buy from them.
EDIT: Here's the relevant part of the warranty policy:
The following components are specifically excluded from coverage under the Lexus Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty:
Standard Upkeep Items:
accessory drive belts, batteries, filters, fluids, heating and vacuum hoses, lines and tubes, tires, spark plugs, windshield wiper blades (rubber component).
Wear and Tear:
Examples include brake pads, rotors, shoes and drums and manual clutches.
Body and Interior:
bumpers, carpet, chrome, dash cover and pad, door trim, handles, fabric, glass (including windshield), headliner, hinges, interior and exterior trim and moldings, cupholders, ashtrays, covers and vents, lightbulbs, nuts, bolts, clips, retainers and fasteners, paint, rust and corrosion damage, seat covers, shiny metals, weather stripping.
Accessories:
any non-Lexus accessories or modified components, including but not limited to wheels, radar detectors and cellular phones.
Other:
any component which has not failed, but that a repair facility recommends or requires to be replaced, repaired or adjusted.
Everything in bold above is NOT covered by the CPO warranty. So if an interior trim piece is creating a squeaking or rattling noise, repair of that issue will NOT be covered.
Head back to the selling dealership. Be polite, say you're very happy with the car, but there's this squeaking/rattling you're hearing that you'd like to have fixed. Play dumb, pretend you think it's covered by the warranty that came with it. Even tell the service guy you asked the salesman and he said it'd be covered by the CPO warranty. This puts you in a better position to complain if it gets to that, but I imagine they'll take care of it for you.

Yea during one of my visits I mentioned the rattle and asked if it wasn't to much work if they could take care of it. They did, however the screws worked themselves loose again anyways so the rattles continue. Haha.
quite helpful information, however i dont think its the dashboard... i held onto it while driving like you said and still made the noise... almost seems as if its the speaker right next to the side mirror... any thoughts?
Check the bolts on the seats? I had a similar noise, took it to the dealer, and they told me that my driver seat wasn't even securely bolted down. in fact, it was missing a bolt and a few others were loose.
If you bought a 2008 you are probably still under the standard warranty which will cover the rattle/squeaks. Just because you bought a CPO doesn't mean it negates the standard warranty.
For example I bought my 2008 CPO but I am still under the standard warranty so everytime I take my car in for warranty stuff my SA automatically puts it in as standard warranty work.
