Default IS 350 for GTO?

Hello,

I am new to this forum but was wondering what you guys think about the value of my car as well as whether or not I should trade it in for a GTO or something else of that nature. It is a 2006 with 23k miles, sport package, and navigation (minus ML). I have no idea what I could sell it for private seller. The condition is good, however, there are probably more scratches than normal for a 5 year old car, but aside from that it is in perfect condition. I have 4 new tires on it as well. I had the first IS and loved it and had 155k before I sold it, I am nervous that this one will not be able to do the same, I've heard a lot about the navigation units going out and do not want to spend the money to fix it, in the event it does.

Really? you'd want to trade a low mileage IS350 for a GTO?

What are you looking to gain? The GTO is an inferior car in many ways, if your're looking to gain speed the GTO is barely quicker and in many situations it'd be a drivers race between the two. Sure the GTO is much more mod friendly but IMO not worth it at all.

Well, i dont have nav... but i do have the IS250 AWD. To be honest, you cant go wrong with a Lexus. Electronics are meant to break eventually, and there is a time when it needs to be fixed. And one of my pet peeves of mine is when someone takes an American car over a Japanese car. To be honest, i believe American cars are crap, one reason why Pontiac went out of business. The quality that Domestic cars have, compared to Foreign cars, are a whole lot worse. If you are a car enthusiasts, then you know what im talking about. So in my opinion, keep the IS350... and add some mods to it....!

If you are worried about the NAV, go get an extended warranty, it will be worth it in the long run.

Get a GTO if your bored with your car. They sound amazing and aren't to expensive. I don't think all american cars are crap. That's my opinion.

Yes the GTO is Holden and I drove one for a while in high school and loved it, it definitely had more power, and I am drawn to the 6.0 litre. However, things broke on it all the time, but they were minor. With my IS, I am afraid that little problems will be very expensive. Do I go to the dealer to ask for an extended warranty? I know that a 3rd generation IS will have to be coming out within the next couple years, and my value will go down. Whereas the GTO was made for 3 years and discontinued. Does anyone have any idea on how much I would be able to get for my IS?

It really comes down to if you want some Luxury as I dont consider the IS a full blown Luxury car or if you want a street/strip that you can make the GTO out to be.

Yeah these are very different cars for different mindsets. If you want the gto I don't think the is will satisfy.

If you really want a full sized american car don't bother with the GTO...get a G8 instead (ideally a G8 GXP).

the GTO offers a 1980s automatic transmission and interior and a tiny trunk.

The G8 greatly improves most of the things that suck about the GTO.

You're thinking about trading in your Lexus for a Pontiac because you're afraid one particular component might fail? ... IMO, keep the IS.

^ x2!! Skip the GTO and go for the G8 if your going that route. I think it looks way better. The interior still isn't that great, but its better than a GTO.

I would just keep the IS though, buy an extended warranty from Lexus if you really want piece of mind. There's a few threads on Lexus dealers that sell warranties you can buy over the phone.

Agreed, go with the G8 GXP model instead. Much nicer in my opinion.
