It's not really at high RPMs. More like if I get on it hard on the way to the gas station, park, go in, buy something, then come out, the interior smells of burnt oil. It's really odd....

i think he meant the valve cover gasket, lol whenever the heats on the smell comes along, happened to my Toyota Solara.

OK guys this smell happened also to my friend 2009 IS250 awd, he switch fuel station and its gone ever since, i dont have that smell when go WOT but i had problem with power and gear shifting with ESSO Gas in Toronto Canada, i also get a lot of normal smoke comes out from my mufflers in a cold doesn't matter morning or night. OK i switched to SHELL GAS station, car shift smoother and less smokey from mufflers. don't argue me i don't know much about car i just say what i see

From what I've been told & read online, its "Normal" with Lexus vehicles.. But when I first got my 07 Lexus IS250 RWD with 89K miles. I raced the hell out of it for the first month or two & never did I ever smell the funky rotten egg smell. not once. I didn't smell it until maybe after 7 months of owning the car. (I've had my lexus for a year now) During a pretty hot day, I pressed on the gas while going up a hill to get in front of a car & BAM.. I smelled it & didnt think anything of it at first. Thought it might be that skunk weed smell in good ol' migh hile colorado haha, until I got home & parked and realized it wasn't & my car still kinda had to funky rotten egg smell coming from it. I Researched it & went to go get it checked out & Lexus believes it may be the bad alternator. I still haven't got it replaced but once I do, I'll update you.

Also, a lot of my friends have a lexus 250/350 2007 - 2010 & others who I've met with a lexus say, they also experience the same smell when they floor it or accelerate at a steady pace for a while or drive for a while at over 75mph+. What I've found out is, if you don't let the car warm up & try to rush somewhere or speed & press on the gas too much, you'll almost immediately get that smell.. but if you let the car warm up for a little bit, I usually give it 10 - 15 min, and then start driving (reasonably) then you shouldn't smell it anymore. I haven't smelled anything for about 2 months now. Then again, I don't drive on the highway really, so im never going over 50mph really.

I have been experiencing the same problem you describe, but recently I decided to change my oil& it fixed my problem. I checked it first and it was pretty black although I always change it at 4,000 mile intervals .I would use regular penzoil oil but I recently discovered Penzoil Ultra plus oil and tried it out since they claim it's 99.5% pure oil and that they are the only oil on the market offers this purity ... well they sure are right , it honestly makes my car perform better and it fixed that smell problem . Highly recommended you guys try this oil

bro,we have change all the gasckets in the exhaust system, all the cats,i can say nothing has changed, we still have the problem, cuz of that our ceiling in the vehicle cant stay clean, now we are planning to sell it,if we not lucky with selling we gonna dump some gas on it and burn the lexus to hell.

I was struggling with that problem for a couple months FINALLY i found the reason of ROTTEN eggs odor in the vehicle interrior.Engine oil, gasoline type, and rest of the thing are a bunch of a bull**** that probably can cause smell but not in my case.the reason was so small and stupid, i've crashed the windshield with my fist i was so piced off.So in my case the reason was small square plastic so called "curtains" located on the back side of the vehicle in behind the rear bumper on each side.it function allow to release the air when u close the trunk.it designet to release the air but not let it in like a check valve.i had a car accident a couple tears ago and in time of maintenance stupid car fixer didnt mount them back.i plugged them off and boom problem was gone!!!

I have the same oil burnt thing going on, only when i have my window open but I still wanna block the wents behind the rear bumper and see if it’s getting sucked in from there since its near the tailpipe..

From my experience on second GEN IS, during WOT with either the windows or the sunroof open, if you smell rotten egg gas it’s because the rear pressure flaps in the rear quarter panels are leaking. There’s a rubber flap that gets old and gets brittle and breaks anway. And that allows exhaust gases to enter the trunk and into the interior cabin. Worth checking out. You can check their condition from under the car or through their rear trunk by removing the access panels, the right side is under the stereo amp. I had to change them in both my ‘07 IS250 and my ‘12 IS350. And just to note, I did NOT have to remove the rear bumper cover as we did it while up on a hoist. Good luck. Cheers

ps leaking flaps are also responsible for rusting out the bottom side of the amp!
