Hello all. My wife's Lexus is a 2010 IS 250, auto transmission, AWD. When the car is underway you cannot use the GPS; its extremely obnoxious. Is there a way to override that safety feature?
Okay...I've yet to pull it out, but I'm willing to bet there are a lot of wires behind the unit. Could you be more specific?
Isn't there a way to turn it off using the cars software as opposed to making physical changes?
The only software override there ever was was on the original 2006 models if they never upgraded their firmware.
Everyone else needs to either cut wires or buy the $300 plug and play version (that does the same thing as the wire cut without cutting, but you still have to take the dash apart to install it)
It's a "safety feature" and reason 729 I avoided the terrible factory nav system in favor of a garmin.
If they had to put in an in-motion lockout a much smarter way would be to tie it to the same sensor that turns the passenger airbag on/off when it detects you having a passenger or not... no passenger- it's locked out in motion... passenger? not locked out.
