So my ML sub is for surely toast. Last night while listening to music there was some loud crackling then no bass. Wondering what you guys have done who this has happened to or what you guys would suggest I should do. Should I replace it with the factory sub or go aftermarket? I didn't have any problem with the quality sound that came from the ML. Thanks in advanced.

My ML subs have blown on me twice already considering how much more we paid for these sound system its an awfully weak sub. If you still have warranty under your car you can just go request a new one at the stealership. I got mine replaced both times. Just crossing my fingers that this one wont blow since my warranty is up. And no I do not play my music crazy loud. like in the high 20s or max 32.
The subs for the IS are weak and the quality is fairly poor. It reminds me a lot of Bose subwoofers. I would recommend any number of other 8" subs in a small sealed box in the back. However, if they will replace it under warrant, go that route until you're forced to pay.
Go aftermarket. It's not too difficult to install, and you can also go with a custom box to save space if you want. There's the 4080 box that fits in the right side, or an eBay box that fits in the back of the trunk (what I went with). But of course, if you're under warranty and dealer will replace it, just do that route...must less to worry about
