when we first got the car, my wife pulled on that lever to close it so the trunk wouldn't lock. After about 10 minutes, we figured out you're not supposed to close it by pulling the chute handle...

How did you manage to do that? There is an actual handle to close the trunk right next to the emergency latch...

I dunno, she's tiny so she looked up and there was a handle there so she pulled it and it released the catch. When I got back there, I tried to close it the regular way and it wouldn't stay closed. Had to push the handle back up to reenable the catching mechanism or something. No problems since...

check for the switch on where light is at. There should be a switch on it/next to it if I remember correctly. It's not a button.

Usually you kidnap them outside the trunk. But then again, you always did do things differently....

Do things differently so the cops can't figure you out. Like giving CPR to a dead person...
