Default Anyone use 10-W30 in their IS?

Hey all I've been hearing a machine gun noise when driving randomly and it happens completely randomly. I recently went from 5-w30 NON synthetic to 10-w30 SYNTHETIC oil yesturday and I don't really know if this is related or not. Again the noise is completely random and it does it WHILE im driving. My question is, has anyone here used 10-w30 Synthetic in their cars?

You don't drive down to Juarez, do you?
I think 5-20w is the Toyota-recommendation.

I would say, go with 0W-30.

However if it is a 2011 vehicle, then it is 0W-20 which the manual recommends.

Stick with manual recommendations, IMO. Thicker oil will just cause more wear during cold starts.

CL,

Thanks for all the replies.

No i don't drive to Juarez.

I ended up going with 10W30 cause the Advanced I go to had a sweet deal for 23 bucks... 5 qtrs of Castrol Synthetic 10w-30 OR 5w-30 + Filter, they were out of the 5W.

Also I figured out what that strange noise was... Ironically after i did my oil change I thought it was related, but infact there was a CD half way wedged into my glove box filter area and I believe the fan in there may have been hitting it.

Since I"ve removed the CD i've yet to hear the sound.

Those real machine guns down in Juarez are probably scarier than a CD.
I was changing my A/C filter the other day, and when I popped the cover off, it dropped down into a crack directly below it. That was a pain, getting it out. That or anything else that fell down there would probably rattle, too.

HA HA, glad the "machine gun" noises ended up not being engine related.

+1 on using the oil viscosity specified in the manual.

If the weather has warmed up in your neck of the woods you'll be fine with 10w-30.
