Default Does my fuel gauge have problems?

A few weeks back, I had like 9 miles remaining as the range. I refilled partially since I was broke and the the range nor did the fuel gauge needle move at all. I thought there was a leak maybe but I made it home with 1 mile remaining. My friend suggested that I reset the computer so I disconnected the battery for 30 seconds and that worked. Less than a month later today, this happened again. Any suggestions as to what is wrong with it?

You probably didn't add enough to affect the sender in the tank. I've never seen that with my IS, but I did have a loaner RX that I was trying to be "frugal" with when I returned it and adding $5 didn't move the gauge or range. So I put more in... just to find out that all the sudden the needle and range jumped... so I ended up putting more in than I wanted to.

If you're only adding a little fuel at a time, it's probably wise to note how many gallons you dropped in, then estimate your range and use your trip meter or odo to make sure you don't run out of gas. Be conservative and use 16 or 17 miles per gallon around town and you should be fine.

This happens to me all the time. It doesn't matter if I fill it up halfway, or all the way, the needle would take at least 5 to 15 minutes to actually move. I went to the dealership and they said that nothing was wrong, but it keeps doing it at every fill up. It's quite annoying.

100% normal.. it takes a certainly amount to be added in order to trigger the reset. I think its 7-9 gallons, not 100% sure of the exact amount.

I noticed the needle did not move before if I put like one gallon in. I do not recall the approximate minimum needed for the need to move but if you put 4 gallons in, it will move.

Are you refueling with the car running? I've seen that happen in many cars when you add fuel to the vehicle while it's running. The gauge has suppression built in so it doesn't register sloshing of fuel when you drive.

It shouldn't do that if you shut the vehicle off first, refuel, then restart.

My needle moves immediately as I pump gas....Now my pathfinder does not.

I notice the needle moves in increments immediately pumping gas when it's on standby by. Tried it this way once, just to see how the needle moves, but nomrally I have the off during refueling.
