Your trunk will align properly if you remove the struts...yea, it won't stay open on it's own anymore but I decided I would rather have it look proper when closed than stay open by itself...I put a stick in my trunk to prop it with if need be, I hardly ever use it anyway. haha
The problem is they are far too strong for the lighter weight trunk and they put a lot of upward force on it, when i have time I'm going to look into finding similar, but weaker, struts to replace them with.
