Default TPMS Sensor Programming

Just curious I was planning on getting a new wheel set up soon but wanted to keep the TPMS in the stock wheels because i was going to use it as winter tires. I was just going to buy 4 new sensors, but my main question is do i have to take it to the dealership and have them programed? Or can i just take it to a local tire shop like NTB and they would be able to program them for me. Another thing i would like to know is the part number for the sensors. I was going to buy some off ebay part# PMV-107J. Does anyone know if these would work for a 2009 AWD is250?

eBay sensors are very hit or miss as far as compatibility goes. And I've heard mostly misses. Personally, I would just buy oem sensors from your dealer. It's $400, which sucks, but you'll know the sensors work. Dealer hookup is required unless you buy the tool to hook em up yourself. The tool is sometimes thrown in when you buy a wheel and tire package.

When i got my second set of rims, i purchased 4 TPMS off ebay and took it to Discount Tire near my house and have them install for me as well as program the TPMS for me (FREE OF CHARGE) a lot of Discount Tire free of charge on programming TPMS, you can call around.

Once you bring these to dealer and have them do the job, they gonna ask for a 'HUGE' money from your pocket.

yeah i wasn't trying to spend that much, which is why i was wondering if other places did it besides the dealership...i was considering just swapping over the sensors since the winter wheels would just be on there for a couple of months anyways but i think i would be annoyed when the warning light comes on lol

I bought two sets from OE... Mounted the first in my winter rims and went to the Toyota dealership to have both sets programed. At least one sensor in my winter rims have failed already (Check TPMS error on dash) after only two weeks. So I pressure canned my second set and toggled over to them to stop the error. All is well so far, but I will eventually have to decide what to do about the failed one. Grrrr.

If I wanted to get OE to replace it I'm sure they would... I spoke with them early on and they seem a good outfit. I'm just lazy in taking the car in to identify and remove the bad sender right now...

that part # will work fine. I know a lot of people on here have bought spare TPMS off ebay and have worked out fine as for programming check discount or evan's tires they can do it for you.

i just checked i don't have any discount tires in my area but i guess i'll ask the local tire shops like NTB or Mr.Tire and see if they do it and how much they would charge...thanks for all the input though !

hey xjayha. you can get a set of tpms sensors off of the classifieds section here for like $100-130 ish.

I also recommend getting them programmed at a local independent tire shop. Just call around and ask cause they need a specific computer / hardware to program the sensors. You can go to the dealership too, but I got quoted $120 average to get the same job done for free at Discount Tires (my local tire shop). Took 15 minutes or so.

eBay were I got mine. If I was gonna pay 400 at the dealer I rather buy a set of used oem rims with tire and sensor at that price.

the dealership charges an hour of labor for that.. approx $100.... and as far as the TPMS sensors itself... i haven't had much problems with ebay... and there are many who are selling them here...

I recently purchased the same TPMS sensors from eBay from OE. Haven't got them in the mail yet but got a quote from the dealership...they said they'll do it for $120, programmed and everything. I would recommend getting it done at the dealership.
