Default The Ultimate Mod?

I was just thinking about this on the way to work this morning... has anyone tried to paint their car with radar-absorbing or radar-scattering paint?

The B2 bomber employed a unique shape and special paint to hide itself from radar. The F117 used better paint and an even more aggressive shape.

Obviously, we can't change the shape of our car (nor would we want to!) in a big picture perspective, but even with textured paint, we can possibly change it enough to be scattering.

Has anyone given thoughts to this? Is it illegal? As far as I know, radar detectors are illegal in California, but I haven't heard anything about special paint. It would be totally ridiculous... you'd never have to worry about a radar gun or speed trap again!

It's been thought of and it would be pointless. The paint accounts for about 5% of the stealth on a stealth fighter planes, its all about shape that determines if radar will be able to pick you up.. not to mention the cost would probably be more than our cars.

radar works on reflective surfaces, you'll need to cover up your headlights/lic plate just about everything~ road n track or car n driver or... some magazine did a article about this 20yrs ago...

Correct
The policemen with handheld radars aim for the plates or headlights.

If i'm not mistaken I watched a show where they recreated an old **** stealth plane. I believe the pain you are referring to cost $10,000 a gallon. I don't know about you but i'd rather just pay the ticket.

Stealth planes use RAM (radar absorbent material), which I assure you isn't cheap. Additionally, as someone else said, the paint plays a relatively small role in reducing a radar cross section, so it wouldn't make much of a difference.

Your facts are wrong. The F-117 Nighthawk was designed and released before the B2 Spirit. The F-117 with its "aggressive shape" is extremely unstable from an aerodynamics perspective, requiring constant adjustment by on-board computers to prevent it from falling out of the sky. The B2, in fact, has a more advanced and stable design. I'm also not sure where you heard the F-117 has "better paint" - considering that it's an older design I highly doubt it.

Except, we can't.

Also wrong. Radar detectors are perfectly legal to use in the state of California. Only radar/laser jammers are illegal.

Another reason to like my IS250...

You know when you speed because you have to really step on it to go.

If we reshape our cars completely flat, then it might work.
