you can pull them out. just push up on the tab. it's frustrating, but once you get it it's really easy. get a flashlight to look at the tab. you don't have to pull that hard, you might break the tab.

I successfully installed the kit by just using a flat head precision screw driver
had to lift up a small clip in the connector the pull the wire out
now it's running great!!
