Never heard of this. ECT power is for transmission shift points. You can't gain horsepower from your trans.

have a bet with this mechanic. if it gains, you pay for the dyno. if there's no gains, he pays.

If he can increase the RPM at which the transmission shifts while in ECT PWR mode (to simply match it to the point at which ECT Normal shifts) then that will still be useful given that ECT PWR mode does in fact downshift quicker (from your cruising gear of, say, "6" to the optimal appropriate gear - say 2nd if you're going 40 MPH) upon WOT (while in D or S mode, doesn't matter).

Oh, and even if he does manage to accomplish what I explained in the previous post, that alone will not gain any peak horsepower given that peak HP occurs well before the shift point during ECT PWR mode and the shift point during ECT normal mode.

It will, however, result in quicker acceleration from 0 if in fact the actual shifts are faster during ECT PWR mode (which I believe they are - the only reason why ECT PWR is generally useless is because Lexus fouled it up by arbitrarily making it shift earlier, thereby not optimizing the net area under the horsepower curve while ECT PWR is engaged)
