I feel that by leaving ECT on also improved braking power, maybe through the break booster. It's just a feeling. No evidence to back it up though.

Yes, it's a topic that's been discussed before.

I will add though that I've left mine in PWR mode for the last 4-5 months. I get the exact same gas mileage as I did in the normal position. I leave it there because my other car is a stick, and the PWR setting feels more natural to me b/c of that.
I'm not sure why someone would think it caused more stress on your brakes - in my mind it would actually stress them less b/c the car downshifts & holds gear more readily.

Not at all. What you're experiencing is the engine braking because the car downshifts quicker.

Only downside I see is when you have passengers and they ask..."We're in a Lexus right? What's with the hard shifting/down-shifting?" LOL!

yeahhhh guys keep dreaming like it makes it faster)) human imagination is great thing=)

I hope toyota will integrate REAL SPORT MODE for next IS. 2nd IS 250/350 has fake "sport" mode it doesn't do anything to make it faster, and ECT POWER useless works same way as 1995 Camry on ECT Power .

I feel a difference in the shift points and downshifting, but have never felt that the car was really any "quicker" in ECT mode. If it is, it is a marginal difference at best.

I leave it on in my 250 AWD all the time. I like the extra power and like the harder/longer shifting pattern. It anticipates hard driving in many cases. Good match with my exhaust to create a sportier/aggresive feel. Yes, I know only a 250 but still....

x2 on the exhaust note. Didn't mention this in my reply, but very true!

Yup, really... from a stop, floored, the car is quicker in NORMAL mode than in ECT-PWR mode... as proven with both repeated track testing and Gernbys datalogging... for one thing it actually holds the gears longer in normal mode (shifts 100-200 rpm higher)

ECT-PWR is useful in on/off throttle type driving... here's what it actually does:
