Default A better solution than fly audio head unts?

I do not currently own a lexus but I am considering purchasing one within the next few months. As I begin my research in getting familiar with this car I've decided on an IS350. Now I just need to decide on a year.

I do not care for the factory options for radio and navigation. I have looked and it seems flyaudio makes a replacement unit that looks OEM. Although the outside of it might look nice the GUI for the system is god awful. Ipod controls look like they were made 5 years ago. There is no album cover art displayed, or any kind of multitouch or anything really "advanced" that should command such a price that they are asking for these units.

Pioneer for example already has multitouch players and their ipod controls can display videos from the ipod, shuffle and display album cover art, and overall just look like a much more polished interface. Is there any other method to retain at least some oem look and feel but being able to take advantage of aftermarket doubledin systems?

I've seen some members hack away towards the bottom of the disc changer assembly, but in my opinion the screen is much too low. Has anyone found a way to mount a double din display above the AC controls while maintaining the buttons that control the HVAC?
Navigation features are not important to me as much as having a polished interface for my ipod.

I've searched on this forum but I cant find PICTURES of people doing this. There is lots of talk, but no visual examples of it being done.

think I saw one on Youtube once. They said they had to relocate the A/C controls and that it was a lot of work

See that is kind of my problem No one here seems to be doing anything like that. Why not?

Why aren't more people demanding aftermarket head units?

why get a new head unit it when you could buy a module that hooks up to your pc and change all the settings and will make your stock head unit sound aftermarket,
cheaper/easier solution

I am unaware of this capability. Can you link me to more information?
Does this module only change eq settings or something? I am looking for something more polished than the fugly flyaudio and lexus menus on their OEM headunit. Why can their ipod integration display album art, or play videos from the ipod?
