Default Installing Carbon Fiber Interior Overlays

So I just finished installing Aerotect's carbon fiber overlay on all 4 door side panels and encountered an interesting problem. I read on some posts from people who previously did this install that you should disconnect the car battery before unplugging the electronic devices. I didn't disconnect the battery since I felt that it wasn't necessary? But after putting on the overlay and reconnecting the plugs, I realized that the power window button lights were blinking and the driver console couldn't control the other windows anymore. At first I thought that I had somehow fried or reset the electronics powering the windows but figured out that simply rolling down each window all the way and rolling it back up brought everything back to normal. PHEW!

Now I still have the center console to install, which I'm a little worried about. Does anyone know if I should or need to disconnect the battery before I disconnect the electrical plugs to the center console? And I can't seem to figure out how to remove the cup holder door and cigarette lighter door. If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks!

That's interesting, I've never heard anyone saying anything about disconnecting the battery. I've taken the trim apart 10+ times without disconnecting the battery, no problems. Having to reset the window switches as you did is totally normal.

I've removed my center console before and I didn't disconnect the battery, although I guess it can't hurt. If it makes you more comfortable then disconnect it.

I just don't see the logic in having to disconnect the battery. It's not like you're dealing with a potentially harmful airbag deployment or something, we're only dealing with window switches, etc. I think disconnecting the battery is unnecessary.

I just unplugged and replugged. Check to make sure there isn't some sort of loose material inside the clips/holes.

Alright, so I finished installing the overlay on the center console without unplugging the battery and it seems like everything's fine. I guess you don't need to unplug the battery.

Yeah, all I can say is that we don't unplug the battery when we do the installation here in-house... but for safety (read: legal), reasons, I have to recommend that everybody else does when they DIY this project.

As far as the windows, yes, they do need to be reset individually after the install. Just go to each window and roll all the way down, keep holding down for a couple seconds, then roll all the way back up. This will reset the Auto feature as well as ability to control the windows from the drivers door.
