OK I asked this just after I got the car, but did not get a acceptable answer.

My car has the adaptive headlights, and it is VERY obvious they/it works when turning left.
But I see no movement when turning right (And I do mean "NO" movement)!

My Audi used both left and right headlight, and angled each about 5 to 10 degrees (rough guess, but it too was VERY visible) when turning, and I loved it!

So my question is two fold.
First, does the adaptive lighting track right?(mine doesn't)
Second do BOTH headlights track or only one? (example:left headlight tracks left, right headlight tracks right)

I'm wanting to know what to tell the dealership when I take it in.
The car is used and one month old to me, so I don't know yet what is "normal".

I can answer your first question - yes, the adaptive lighting is supposed to track right in addition to tracking left. At least, it does this on my 2009 IS350, but considering the fact that the 2009 IS350 is 99.999% the same car as the 2006 IS350, the year difference shouldn't be a factor.

I don't know the answer to your second question. All I know is that at least one headlight is involved in tracking both left and right, and as you said the tracking is blatantly visible during nighttime.

does anyone know how the AFS detect how we turn? when we turn? or the intensity of the turn? my friend told me that it use censors attached on the suspension and those censors are not water proof. I wanna confirm if what he said was true.

i had heard that in our lexus, it tracks the left more than the right. The right is very so slightly where you can't even tell but I do notice it turning right.

I think I have a fault then, because a right turn does nothing...

Not sure what AFS stands for, sorry.
Every company has its own name for headlights that move and point into the corner. They should also self level when you put a load in the car
Audi called it "adaptive" lighting.

I know both headlights move, but I forget which way each one turns. I'll check it out tonight and let you know. I can even post a vid if you want so are able to compare. Just let me know...

AFS (Adaptive Front Lighting System) improves visibility at intersections
and on curves by automatically adjusting the level of the headlights
according to vehicle speed and the degree of the tire angle that are controlled
by steering input.
Operates at speeds of 6 mph (10 km/h) or higher.

Here's the answer you're looking for from the 2006 New Car Features manual. It appears the system is biased for right hand drive. I don't see any reason for the asymmetric operation, but clearly this is how it's built:

Your right that it is very odd to see a limit for left turns... Wonder if international models share this limitation.

Are they also self adjusting vertically?

Yes, they're self-leveling - there are sensors on the front and rear driver's side to measure suspension compression and adjust the level accordingly. That's on the previous page in the NCF.

Do they turn on Freeway at high speed? I notice its movement on surface street but i don't see any movement on highway going 65+mph
