Default Replacing stock speaker system

I had a set of Diamond Audio component speakers from my last car that is sitting in the closet and was wondering if they would fit in our cars.

I was searching through the threads and found our speaker sizes are either 6.25 or 6.5

But I wasn't too sure on the tweeters.

If anyone has any details on if: these component sets

would fit

i have the same components. i was thinking about installing them but i dont know if youll feel any difference unless you'll get a really good amplifier. I think stockies are 6.5".

stocks are 6.5.. components wont do much for you because the amp has wires for the lows, mids, and highs... components require a full range frequency in order for the crossover to split the frequencies to the 6.5 driver and tweeter... also the tweeter size is 1".. i plan on attempting to run a 1.25-1.5" tweeter soon, so i'll let you know how that works.. also, my suggestion to you is to fork out the extra cash for an oem interface.. it will make a big difference in sound quality if you do plan on following through with your components.. if you DO plan on pulling the frequencies for a LOC, i suggest you tap into the mid range frequencies and play it through your 6.5's.. OR upgrade your mids entirely and play it through them

On a side note, anyone know how complicated it may be to replace just the head unit? I am looking at an Eclipse AVN7000 head unit, but not sure how well it would integrate with the stock system hook-ups.

You can do it, but it will look like BUTT. I'd never change the head unit in any ISx50.

That unit is nice...I'm assuming you don't have navigation on your current car. Im sure their is an aftermarket dash kit that will enable a unit like that to be installed in your car, but you will run into some fundamental problems. The unit that you are trying to install has a built in four channel amp, and you have 13 speakers in your car. So this means that you are only going to hook up the unit to four of the 13 available speakers. You would be pretty much wasting $$ by not using the other speakers. Not only that, but I don't think their would be any difference in sound quality to be honest. The only real advantage is the addition of the navigation to the car. If you do go ahead and install the unit make suer that the current stock speakers are 4ohm, because the AVN unit is only compatible with 4ohm speakers. Also unless the installation is being performed by you be prepared to spend some cash on the install, because you would have to run the AVN speaker wires all the way to the trunk, were the amp is located. At a custom car audio shop i would pay no more than $150 (not including dash kit) if you do end up going this rout. Hope this helps....i used to be a car audio installer for circuit city (R.I.P)

my shop told me that my old 6.5" diamonds would fit in my new IS when i had them take it out of my old car, but as you identified already, the issue is with the tweeters because our IS system appears to be 3 way system up front. the diamond tweeters will be too large for the stock tweeter location and too small for the stock midrange location. the 6.5" diamond driver will fit the stock 6.5" driver location.

at the end of the day i think an IS upgrade will depend largely on installer skill+effort and equipment matching+tuning. unfortunately i do not trust any installer whom i've used in norcal with this car.* as for equipment matching what i mean is, e.g., would you leave the stock tweeter active if you replaced the stock midranges with your diamond tweeters? (and the stock 6.5 w/ the diamond 6.5?") so on, so forth.

in any event i think it will take more effort than simply taking your HEX's out of the closet and slapping them on to beat the balance of the stock system.

*ps- i might make an exception for bing at simplicity-in-sound even though i've only spoken to him on the phone. (check out his picture heavy website for some ideas).

when i first got my car i asked REV-01 to swap my stock spkrs, he looked at me like im crazy, he told me 'why? they're good spkrs not paper cone type, swap them when they blow'... not many 'shops' would say the truth, they'd rather have you give them business~ so... my advise is, don't swap them till you blow them.

Actually, there's no dash kit either... so the head unit install would require a complete custom job, hopefully by someone good at fabricating dash bits with fiberglass and such.

The only "aftermarket" unit that fits perfectly without custom work is the fly audio nav unit.

I like the way the audio from the car sound, but personally I think that their is too much bass coming out the speakers. Even when I turn the bass all the way down, i feel like their is too much. The highs on the system are great, but you cant fully appreciate them because your not able to turn it up as high as you would like becaue the bass (even at the lowest setting) begings to distort the music as you turn up the volume.
