I would say it depends on Phone Models...
My first generation iPhone will refuse to pair with BT Audio.
I am not sure if I need NAV package for this, but I doubt it. BT Audio is listed as a feature for my standard stereo.
But strangely, it will pair fine with handsfree system so that I can use my iPhone for calls with the audio system.

It's the exact same reason the OEM stereo/nav can't do it with newer phones prior to 2010.
You can do A2DP on a jailbroken original iphone though since the hardware supports it, just not apples software.

Nothing strange about it- the original iphone software doesn't support A2DP, while later ones do.
