I'm looking to get HID's for my 09 IS250 and was going to go all out and do the S2K retro. But I just realized something. The halogen projectors on 09+ IS seem to be better than the previous years. Not only is it on the IS, but I've noticed similar projectors on the new Toyota Venza's and Camry's. The cutoff seems to be better. At certain angles, the yellow halogen almost appears white with a little slight hint of blue. Either the projectors are better or they the bulb is a higher kelvin. Can anyone verify this? Anyone installed HID on the 09+ IS and noticed a decent cutoff?

 

Sounds possible. Highly unlikely that the manufacturer would use factory halogen with a higher color temperature, as it robs light output.

Thanks Jetfire for putting up those pics! The cutoff seems like a definite improvement from the years prior. I think maybe i'll just go with this for now and see how I like it.

i could be mistaken but my 08 has always looked like that. possibly the cut off on mine are just as sharp if not razor like. idk though

 

Those pictures do make them look not bad, though I do see some hot spots and flaring.

 

they obviously aren't as good as a real retrofit, they aren't bad. good enough for me. i find super sharp cutoffs distracting anyways, lol.

 

But what about the OEM AFS projectors, are those improved?

i'm really happy with the xtreme kit. when everyone started posting about their power steering going out because of aftermarket HID kits, i'm glad your kit has EMI filter.

but i did relocate one of my ballasts from beside the ecu to behind the shock tower just for ease of mind.

 

Yup. Unfortunately, many vendors compromise on quality to get a cheaper product without fully understanding what they are selling their customers.

You get what you pay for :-)
