Wow.. By looking at the top of the motor, I really (realllllly) thought it would be a total pain to change the plugs but not so much, hey? I'm going to put that on the list for next weekend.

Changing the spark plugs in my is250 was by far the biggest pain in the *** out of all 12 cars i've owned! I would honestly install 2 sets of coilovers in exchange for someone to do the spark plugs for me!

Default Finally did the other 3 plugs !

Well, I'm thinking I am not the only one to start this job, and do the "easy" ones first ! Yea, the passenger side were a breeze a few weeks ago, but I stopped when realized the driver's side were under the surge tank. After finding ALOT of online help and the pics from original post, I tackled it yesterday with only minor complications - you must remove ALL the identified bolts or risk cracking the plastic surge tank. And use a high quality 5mm allen or you might strip a bolt head. It took me about 1.5 hrs.total time; installed the new gaskets and I used OEM Denso plugs. Kudos to mIStaSC for all the info and pics. She seems to run a little smoother, no codes, and at 57k the recommended maintenance is done. The orig plugs were dirty and worn some, too. If you have any mechanical abilities, I suggest doing this yourself and saving money. As far as being a Lexus owner and being able to "afford" the stealership to work on my car - I would rather use that extra cash to put more go-fast goodies on this 250 or my Mustang ! Besides, I like doing my own wrenching and knowing it is done right.

I'm new here and got quoted $485 to replace my plugs. Somehow my car has been running fine without needing a replacement up til now and its at 112k miles.

Gonna try this when I get home and will let everyone know how it goes.

At the end of the intake manifold there is a little yellow cover/box type thing with a wire going into into it. What is that?

this is on my to do list. My is250 is at 61k. The three plugs on the passenger side were blackened carbon. Its probably the same on the other side as well?

Damn, thank goodness for this forum. I'm only at 23K, but at my last oil change interval I asked what the rates were for the various major mileage services so I would know what sort of pain to expect...Pohanka Lexus in Northern VA wants over a GRAND for the 60K "because we have to change your spark plugs". I knew it couldn't be hard, glad to see it isn't!

I am working on bringing our 07' 250 up to speed and just put in an order with Sewell for spark plugs and the associated gaskets for the intake manifold.

My question is, will I need to give the upper manifold (or air surge tank as it seems to be called) a good cleaning? I have yet to find much discussion on this, however I have not completed my search.

Thanks in advance.

Tip:

If you stripped any of the Allen bolts, hammer a 3/8 socket on to it and wrench it off.

***Go to home depot and buy M6-1.0x30mm bolts to replace the stock allen bolts.

^This will help you out very much in replacing the spark plugs.

Good advise here

Changed my plugs yesterday. They still looked pretty good after 60k miles and could easily go longer:

Also, be gentle with those screws... one on the throttle body broke (with torque wrench ) and it was major PITA to drill out:
