im having a hard time taking off my oil filter because i cant get the cap off!!!
so im now i just changed my oil but no the filter yet -___-
do anyone know the size for the tool or w.e to take it off?
i call up dealership but no one responded back to me

 

Since i had a hard time getting the correct size filter wrench, i just used a plumbing wrench plier http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...keyword=wrench

I got the one that is like a C so it can clamp all the way around the filter. Been using it since.

 

if you were in southern california, i'd let you borrow the removal tool...

but 2slow's suggestion is a good alternative.

 

Whatever happened to searching for how to do this in the FAQ before draining the oil?

How did you go ahead and change the oil without removing the filter to drain the old oil?

 

Wow expensive for an attachment.

 

I didn't have to change my oil yet, but I know they sell these attachment tools at Kragen for other cars. I have one for my Mazda MPV and Mazda6 both bought from Kragen (CSK now?) Try checking there first, should be a lot cheaper IF they have it.

 

I went through the same thing. Buy a "F" cap wrench from AutoZone.

you'll need to get past the initial sticker shock to understand its true value.

considering how much an authorized dealership charges for an oil change, the money you save by DIY'ing oil changes pays for the attachment in the long run.

 

Definitely agree on changing your own oil. Not only to save money, but to know it is done right. How do you know they change your oil filter? Or put in the right amount or the right kind of oil? Replace the drain plug gasket?

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that i just bought GENUINE lexus oil filters for $5.50 each. I bought 5 filters at once (to take advantage of the combined shipping). well my friend use to work for park place lexus and he change is oil all the time.
he said he usually use the regular wrench to get it off but for some darn reason we had a hard time -______-
and i went to autozone like 4 time trying to find the correct size and i couldnt that's why i posted this thread to basically ask for the size for the tool.

and he told me that lexus sometime just change the oil and change the filter every other because a filter can last for atleast 15k

 

if what he says (as far as the lexus dealership changing the oil and filter in alternating intervals) is really the truth, all the more reason to buy your own tools for simply DIY maintenance.

there's a thread about our 2is's being able to go 10k between oil changes (iirc, the blackstone UO thread), but 15k is a bit of a stretch...
