What I meant was, how long does it take you to drive those 20 miles? If you're constantly in bumper to bumper traffic you're going to get terrible mileage.

Lots of stoplights? Idle mpg = 0.

I think jackblack7 has it.

When I drive almost entirely in traffic (i.e. a lot of sitting around and going nowhere), I get somewhere in the 14-15 MPG. And I'm quite sure our traffic is nothing like NY traffic.

Getting the car serviced might help a bit as well.

funny...When I went in for my 20k service my service advisor told me that he recommeneded cleaning the fuel injectors... He told me I would see better MPG.. I kinda laughed because doesnt this engine have direct port injectors? little different than the old fuel injectors in other cars

something doesnt sound right about that.... when I used to canyon race right after I filled up at the gas station at the bottom of the 5 miles of road leading up to the canyon averaging 2nd-4th gear 4500-redline RPM range I never got it to go below 7.9

Try disconnecting the battery it will reset the average MPG meter and see if it changes

Try 5.3 on the track with the IS-F. One hour on track = one tank of gas. It was fun. It's really not possible to go fast on public roads.

FI cleaning is one of the biggest scams out there. There is no need to pay silly money for this on a car with so little miles unless you put additive in the fuel that caused problems. If you feel compelled to clean the injectors this is a very effective product and reasonable ($10)!

I get an average of 18-20 mpg mostly city, and here in Boston the tunnels under the city are just perfect to floor it and enjoy the sound of your exhaust echoing back to you, which I do a lot and love it

put the gauge display on Current MPG, then make it a game to maximize your mileage. You can easily learn what behaviors make your mileage bad and good

just rev up upto 3-4k rpm for first 2 gears and stay off the gas pedal.
try to just let the car slide...40mph...cruse and avoid stop and go signals...you could get 20mph minimum

if you have to stop and go for every signals in NY, you do get 11mpg..
