Take it to the dealership and they'll be able to take it apart for you under warranty and take out whatever is preventing it from opening all the way.

There is a connector that has been attached upside-down inside your console. I believe it's one of the LED cables for inside the console.

I know you have to take off the shifter and the two trim pieces to the sides of your head unit before you can take the console apart.

There's a great thread on this that explains in more detail what to do. Search for a thread started by me.

EDIT:
Here it is.

if you remove the wood trim from the middle you will be able to fix that doing so is very easy just pull the silver pieces out diagonally towards you remove the shift know slide the arm rest back and give it a pull there are 2 wires plugged into it so so yank the whole thing off undo the wires and look for what is causing the problem if that doesnt work remove the cup hold (4 phillips screws) and play around with it

OK, I am really tempted to take it apart and see what is in there, but I still am not sure how to do it. Is there a thread that better describes how to take the console apart? I have searched, but haven't found anything.

I used a thread similar to this one. It's really very simple and unlikely that you'll break or damage anything.
