I hope you're not running these sizes because both are over 4% differential from stock.
Stock 225/45/17 = 25" Diameter
255/35/19 = 26" Diameter (4.2% off)
225/40/19 = 26.1" Diameter (4.5% off)
I ran:
225/35/19 = 25.2" Diameter (.9% off)
235/35/19 = 25.5" Diameter (2.0% off)
Wheels were 19x9 +22 Hi Disk and 19x10 +22 Lo Disk
Stock 225/45/17 = 25" Diameter
255/35/19 = 26" Diameter (4.2% off)
225/40/19 = 26.1" Diameter (4.5% off)
I ran:
225/35/19 = 25.2" Diameter (.9% off)
235/35/19 = 25.5" Diameter (2.0% off)

He may be fine now.....let's see 10k miles down the road.
What I'm saying is that I tell my customer's with AWD to keep the tire sizing to within 2% from stock diameter all the way around.
You can run any other tire size you want, but I wouldn't recommend it. That's just me.....

I thought the 1% difference meant in relation to the other tires, not the stock specs.
i.e. front and back diameters should be max 1% difference. As long as the wheel RPMs are consistent all around in a straight line, it does not matter what size you run on AWD, of course within reason.

No.....you need to compare to the stock rolling diameter.

225/35/19 front
265/30/19 rear =
235/35/19 front
275/30/19 rear =
the car isn't so sensitive to experience damage from these sizes... in fact, my wifes IS250awd is getting staggered Vossen VVS083's shortly. Project is already in the works.
Follow the above tire sizes and you'll be absolutley fine.
