Default Recommend a remote start

My daughter wants to buy Mom a remote start system for the IS.
What works best with the existing OEM remote locks and alarm system?
Thanks

^^ i am not 100% sure but i think i heard that remote start on 2IS are a no go. The reason being is that the brake pedal has to be pressed in order for you to start your car.

There was some talk about maybe if they figure out a way to emulate the pressing of the break pedal than it would work. I would do some google'n and see if there is any subjects on it.

Remote start is a no go. I tried to have that option on my Clifford alarm, but it couldn't be done easily..i didn't wanna be a test bunny either.

Actually installing a remote start in an IS250/350 is very possible. I have done one in a 2007 IS350 and a 2008 Camry Hybrid. I though the Camry was going to be really difficult but it wasn't. With the proper parts the installation isn't bad at all.

The Viper 5301 is a nice remote start with two-way capability to let you know that your car has been successfully started. If you have an iPhone you can get the Viper VSM100 SmartStart add-on unit and start your car from anywhere.

DEI(manufacturer of Viper) makes the smart key bypass you will need, the XK05 or the new PKALL bypass will work on your IS.

Care on sharing on how you installed it on your 350? I might take my car back to get it done it its not very difficult.

Thanks

It's been a couple years since I did my old IS350, but I used the XK05 bypass which made interfacing with the smart key system easy. If I remember right almost all of the wiring is done at the fusebox on the driver's side. The IS has a regular starter wire, which I believe was also in the same vicinity as the fusebox. I thought I was going to have to use a relay to trigger the brake wire to start the car but I'm 90% sure it wasn't necessary. I know for sure that my Camry didn't need any interfacing with the brake pedal to start and it also had the same push button setup. The hardest part was running wiring into the door to gain access to the lock wiring.

Either way an experienced installer shouldn't have any problem doing an IS. The only thing that is different is the ignition wiring is not at the switch like a traditional vehicle.
