yeap it is normal.

My car jumped 3" forward and backward whenever I shifted into R and D.
Dealer says, it is normal. It is because only 3500?lbs car has big 277torque.

I just step on the brake bit more than usual to prevent jerky motion.

Really i just hit 20K and its fine.. Well just wondering, when you put it in gear do you wait for it to be in gear or you gas it right away? Know what i mean

Tick normal with direct injection, not noticing the jerking.

press firmly on the brake when shifting to park or reverse and you will not get the "jerk"

I get the jerk only if I let off the brake too soon after changing it into reverse.

Like others have said, I put my foot firmly on the brake, put the car into reverse, and I keep my foot still firm on the brake for slightly longer than "usual" (for most other cars) and it alleviates the "problem"

sometimes i step on the brake, the car down shifts, then quickly i step on the gas again then the car jerks a bit. well guess the lexus transmission is not that smooth..

... you mean as if the torque converter was too tight, as soon as you put it into gear, it wants to jump forward or back ?
Thats how my IS350 feels. I assumed it was normal.

Did you do a complete stop, shift, then gas?
