im currently looking at a used is350. it is being sold by a private party and I want to get a third party inspection done. How do I go about doing this? Am i able to take it to a lexus dealer and have them look at it for me? and how much would this run if I were to take it to a dealer? sorry for the noob questions and thank you ahead of time

 

Tell the private seller that you would like to have it inspected before buying. Obviously you will pay for the service being performed. Im sure hell agree. Set up an appointment with Lexus and have him take it there and they will give you the result when you go up there to pay the bill. of course they wont release the car until the bill is paid though so keep that in mind. Maybe you both can go up there while the car is being inspected. I had a car pre delivery inspected at a Lexus dealer once and it cost me $125. Worth every penny if you ask me.

Call a few Lexus dealers and ask the Service Manager 1) if they do it), 2) how much it costs, and 3) what the inspection covers/involves.

 

ok i called around and these are my choices: i can get a 27-point inspection for 135 dollars or i can get the 161-point inspection for 165 dollars. I decided to go with the 161 just to give me peace of mind, but the 161 point also checks many trivial things IMO

 

Good decision, that is a good price.
