Default Bike Rack - Yes or No

Most of you may recall I was planning to have my roof vinyl in matte black. I think I will hold off for now. Instead, I'm thinking of using the money to buy a bike rack to haul my mtn. bike.

I've seen many bike racks on STi's, I think they look awesome on those cars, but I'm not so sure about racks on luxury cars, especially the IS.

You guys think a bike rack will look nice on a modded IS?

If you search for 'bike rack' in thread titles in the 2is you'll find a bunch of discussions. Here are just a few of them.

Thanks for feedbacks.
My answer is NO as well, but I just need assurance majority agreed bike rack is not appealing on an IS/luxury car.

I agree, no rack on the ISx50 is best, but I have a Jeep for that kind of stuff.

If you bike and the IS is your only vehicle, then I don't see how you have any other choice but to get a bike rack if you want to ride. I'd say just do it.

Furthermore, I've seen a few threads on this forum about bike racks that attach to the trunk and detach very easily. You might want to look into that instead of a roof rack.

I actually have two other cars, my E63 AMG and BMW X5. I use my X5 to haul my bike, but at times I want to use a car.

JVT - X5 is a great bike-hauler.

Note: The nicest roof top racks for the IS will not come on and off the car easily or quickly. And the aero drag is very noticeable at freeway speeds even with 1 or 2 bikes.

Again, thanks for the input to one and all!

Looks like I'll just stick with the X5 to haul my bike, and use the money to upgrade to brighter lights or paint/vinyl roof (as originally planned).

Curt came out with a trailer hitch for the ISx50 a couple of months ago ... same hitch fits the current GS.

I used roof top bike racks for over 20 years before switching to a hitch mounted bike rack when I bought my first Lexus in 1990. A hitch mounted bike rack is pure bliss compared to one on the roof ... no noise, no damage to the car, easy loading, can install or remove the bike rack in seconds, can easily lock both the bike rack and the bikes to the hitch.

Etrailer is currently selling the IS/GS hitch for $133.95: http://www.etrailer.com/pc-H~11372.h...eid=2009301154

Attached is a photo of the IS/GS hitch. It's pretty easy to install. One person can do it but it's easier if you have a helper. Simple hitch bike racks cost less than $100 but the skys the limit ... I've seen some hitch bike racks for $300+. My hitch bike rack cost less than $50 in 1990.
