Best All Season Tires for the IS
Hey Guys,
It's about that time again for me to upgrade my tires cause I refuse to drive these summer tires on a IS350 again. Now I am not interested in getting snow tires and then switch them every season because I don't get enough snow to justify that purchase.
Anyways, I am looking for quiet and tires that will last me quite a while. Not really looking to get the fastest track times but I really want some quiet tires that do well in snow.
I am looking for opinions from IS owners specifically cause as soon as you move this to the tire section it gets polluted with tires my car doesn't even take.

I found the BFG g-Force Super Sport A/S to be a really good tire, even in the snow. The best feature of the tires, besides handling is how quiet they are. Also, you can't beat the price (about $129 for the fronts). I will be getting another set when needed. Great tires!

I just researched and purchased 2 different A/S tires. Bridgestone RE960 Pole Positions for my wife's IS250awd, and more recently Toyo Proxes4 tires for my IS350.
I've driven both cars and compared and the Toyo's are noisier then the Bridgestone's. Ride comfort, they are about equal.
I think the Bridgestone's are higher quality tires, (also more expensive of course). But GOOD LUCK finding them in the correct sizes for our RWD IS350.
Getting them for my wife's IS250awd was rather easy as I just got one size for all 4 tires 235/35/19's. Perhaps you'll find it easier if your driving on 18's but I couldnt for the life of me find a correct size for the rears in 19's.
They only offered 235/35/19 & 275/30/19. Which at first glance looks fine, but after a bit more research and Tirerack's tech notes, Lexus requires the rear tires diameter to be .5 inches larger then the fronts. (Stock 225 fronts & 255 rears). Something about the ABS, track control, speedometer ect... a list of many things they said that could go wrong with car by doing with tires that weren't Mfr spec. - Although I see many people here on CL not following mfr spect seemingly without problems
Anyway ^ a bit of a rant... so in short, I went with the Toyo Proxes 4's. They offer MANY sizes so you can stay within Lexus' specs. 225 fronts & 255 rears. You wont have a problem finding these sizes in the Proxes4.
The Bridgestone though, good luck!
As far as what I think of the Proxes4... decent tires... fairly quiet, nice comfort... but i drive aggessively and feel like I slide a bit on them... just a slight 'drift' feeling. But what do you expect when your gunning it on on-ramps.

I also have Bridgestone RE960 Pole Positions A/S, but on
my '03 540iT, and they are wonderful. They do NOT make them in both staggered sizes for the IS350, looked forever and they just dont make them.
I ended up putting Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on the IS350, and this year, they now have an Pilot Sport A/S Plus, so that may be an improved version of the tire and these have the staggered sizes the IS350 needs if you have 18" wheels.
I like them but they are too loud on badly grained roadways up here in Washington. They are quiet on smooth patches, but loud on grained roads, which is probably 99% of the roads here in western WA. I am considering putting in sound deadner to see if that helps take out the noise in the Lexus.
The Bridgestones on the BMW are really quiet on that car, and it too has wide staggered sizes on wider rims..
Good luck with your choice, if you belong to Costco, check with them - they sell alot of different brands including Michelin. Tire Rack is also good and they can ship to your installer. Discount Tires is good and they are local in some places of the US..
Good luck with this.

just purchased yokohama avid w4s. replaced bridgestone potenza re-92. after about 100 miles...
MUCH quieter. the bridgestones were VERY loud (pretty quiet up to about 15k then awful). any minor change in pavement roughness went right into cabin noise
seems to handle better (havent really pushed yet)
rides much better - the ride comfort is improved significantly. the ride was rock hard prior not it seems much softer.
i had 28k miles on the potenza's and got an unfixable flat. surprisingly, the bridgestones had quite a bit of tread left. these yokohama's look like they have much more tread to begin with. and a nice looking tire (no rim protector though).
warranted for 60k miles for mileage so i'm hoping to get good life out of them (i rarely drive aggressively)
obviously no snow but they are M&S rated
