Default 2008 IS 250 creaking noise

Hey everybody. Here is the situation. Recently I have been noticing a light creaking noise coming from the steering column, which occurs while go over rough roads. So today I took it to Lexus and the mechanic and I localized the noise to the area of the gauges. It seems that the noise it coming from where the plastic boarder meets the protective external window for the gauges. The mechanic said a number of people have complained about this and that he was willing to slip a piece of felt between the boarder and window to stop the noise but it will be visible. I figured I'll will try to live with the noise rather than having a visible piece of felt bordering the window. The car is about 2 months old with 1300 miles. Is anyone else out there experiencing the same problem and how did you deal with it, or am I the only one? Any advise on this matter? Its a very faint sound but enough to be annoying.

My 2008 with 11,000 miles has the exact same noise in the exact same area, but I only notice it on very rough interstates with short expansion joints. When driving on these types of roads, it has a rythmic vibration type noise and I can put my finger right above the gauge plastic on the very top center screw and put just the slightest pressure on it and it will stop. I thought about taking that piece out and packing some foam in there, but I believe you have to remove some steering column pieces to get to the bottom two screws....so I left it alone.

i've seen it on an '07 too.

i have an '08 with 15k and get this squeak occasionally above the dash guages. it depends on the weather (actually seems more noticable when it is warm out).

anyway, there are 2 screws under this "dash" guage and if you remove them you can stick the felt in there too.

this is an issue that all 3rd generation GS owners have. its due to lexus trying to save on the material they use for the dash. if i'm correct it should be a type of squeeking noise? there's ways to get rid of this, just look it up on the 3rd generation GS forum. hope this helps

The Lexus dealer should do this under warranty. However, a simpler fix which usually works is to spray siilicone lubricant between the offending pieces of plastic (works 90% of the time).

I've seen this problem in my IS, and 2006-2009 IS-AWD loaners I've driven. Maybe more prominent because we have many crappy roads here in MA. Rattles & creaks come standard on the IS.
