Did I just get ripped off??
But yeah, rip off.
I once had a previous car that just cut off on my way into work (fairly modified) so I had it towed to a very nearby shop that had previously done a few simple things for me that I couldn't do easily myself due to lack of a lift... I figured it had to be something simple since it wouldn't restart (it's fuel or spark, right?) and I didn't have time to look at it since I had to get to work.
So I go over there after work and the guy explains he had his "technicians" look it over all day, and they couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I needed to take it someplace else... and I only owed him a $100 diagnostic fee.
I pointed out he didn't diagnose anything.
He insisted he still had to pay his guys for trying.
I said maybe you need to hire more competent guys then, but I'm not paying for your poor hiring skills.
He said he wouldn't give the car back unless I paid him.
I said ok, here's a credit card to pay you...and soon as I leave I'll call Mastercard and tell -them- not to pay you.
He got a super pissed look on his face and just tossed me my keys and told me I wasn't welcome back at his shop... which I informed him was no problem at all.
Anyway, got it towed home, replaced the ignition coil myself that weekend (which took me like 10 minutes to diagnose myself) , car ran fine after.
There isn't though.

That is awesome to hear. I’ll be seeing him tomorrow morning. I’ll be sure to let him know about his fan base.
I did all the mods myself except the coilovers because I don't have the time to do it. But even so, that doesn't mean I should know everything about the IS, or what mechanics do to scam people.
Please jump over to the Suspension and Brakes section and view my alignment results. Thanks.
