Default touch screen trouble!

So, Today was a hot day in Los Angeles... which is not a problem... This morning I drive to church, and leave my car out in the hot sun for 12 hours.. Everything in my car works fine..except when i go to touch the navi screen... It doesn't respond. EVERYTHING WORKS (when i hit menu, dest, or audio) but it doesn't respond to my touch....

Does anyone else have this problem....It is really bothering me, because it feels like i lost control over 50% of my car's function...

BTW, I have not done any hacks to it in anyway.

The touch screen works by differentiating the temp of your finger and the screen. Your screen was too warm to detect a touch. I bet it works fine once the interior has cooled.

you can cool the interior as much as you want and it probably won't work... i had this issue and had to change my screen under warranty good thing they swapped the whole central unit for me so there was no need for them to take off the screen

I've never had this problem, even after parking in the sun on a 107 degree day. Sounds like something is wrong with the OP's screen.

Mine didn't work also, but it wasn't because of the heat.. ended up going to the dealership to have it replaced under warranty.. only thing that's different is that I don't know if this happened before, but when i go to the audio stations or the temperature setting, it would change back to the map screen after a while without me pressing the Map button..

this doesn't have to do with the navi, but I also replaced the cluster because the needle on the mph side was a little dim compared to the others.. got it replaced and noticed they gave me a 07-08 cluster because i have the fog light indicator now..

So...I don't have a warranty... and they are saying it will be around 2500$ to replace the unit. Is there any after market units i can put in its place?

The nav has an option to auto switch back to the map screen, I'm not sure off the top of my head but I believe you hit the info->settings and it'll give you a screen with the option.

This might sound silly but have you tried cleaning the screen thoroughly? Especially at the edges. My iPhone for example, if the screen gets too dirty the phone sees it as me holding my finger on it and seemingly stops responding. A good cleaning and it's as good as new. Good luck.

HAHA.... not! The screen is pressure sensitive.

try to get your hands on a good screen from a salvaged car or something, swapping screens will probably save the day

I had this problem before, I couldn't find a solution. I guess it's because of the hot weather. In my country temperature reaches 45C+ in summer which effected on my navi last summer and I took it to the dealer and there was no solution other than changing it.

How far out of warranty are you? If it was me, I'd be asking the dealer and Lexus for "good will" coverage for the repair, or at least part of it. It's worth a try...

Crap, I just had the same thing happen to me and I am just over 50k mile warranty. So the only solution is to drop $2500? seems a bit excessive.
