nav hack question
hello. so this guy said he can do a nav hack for me by cutting wires. however, there has to be an on/off switch in order to activate it while driving. he also said that it will give me about 30 secs to input stuff, then it will stop letting me input stuff. does this sound about right? anyone have any idea how nav hack works? thanks.

Lexus Fanatic
Thier is a VS plug and play kit around. I would not cut wires. Thier was a guy in the Chicagoland area that shorted out his whole unit and harness. Lexus will not warranty this and it cost him $2500 out of pocket. be very careful.

Hey Brian, long time no talk. That would be me who "thought" my unit shorted out. Thanks again for your help Brian.
But the unit was actually okay even though I cut the wires. I still to this day do not know exactly what went wrong. It had to be some short circuit though within the vehicle, but it wasn't the unit bc I bought another nav unit, and it still didnt fix the short circuit issue (which caused my A/C to not blow from the front vents or the footwell).
Lexus finally fixed the issue somehow and replaced my original nav unit in the car. they charged me about $500 for the labor but could of easily screwed me over for more. They restored my unit back to factory as well, soldering the cut wires back together. I had the vaistech unit sitting in the glove compartment. for sooo long. What a waste.
I just got the ***** to try the hack again and re-cut the wires nd install the vaistech unit. this time I made sure to take of the "-" off the battery under the hood. I think this was the problem before.
long story short, everything works fine now. I can watch videos off the ipod while driving (grounded parking brake) and I have a switch to enable input while driving. It last a little longer than 30 secs though.
