I bought self-adhesive vinyl. Do I just cut a piece that will cover the housing and then trim off the excess?

did my fog housings today. it was a pain in the butt. I had to make templates to cut the vinyl to make it match almost perfectly with the housings. def. needed the hair blower to mold the vinyl to the housing. i think tint film is not as thick. if anyone needs a DIY step by step lmk
