Default IS automatic door opener thingamajig doesn't work

Just a week after performing major repairs on my car, another problem popped up with my IS. Now I'm really starting to question Lexus reliability.

My alarm system and the auto lock/unlock feature doesn't work anymore. I can still lock and unlock it manually with the key pad, but the proximity sensor or whatever its called doesn't work. It's weird having to open the door using the pad since I never had to use.

Does anyone have experience with this type of problem? The trunk still works and I even tested it out with the key pad on me and away from me. It does what it's suppose to do. Only the front driver's side and passenger door doesn't detect it anymore. It's really strange. The key pad battery was replaced roughly 6-months ago and the main batter is in excellent shape so it's not that. If it was, I wouldn't be able to start my car or use it lock/unlock it with the pad.

If your car is still under warranty just take it to the dealer.

Your battery might be low. Or you're having buyer's remorse since your handle is LexusIS-TL. "TL" doesn't belong here my friend. :-)

Ignition works, trunk works, but door handles do not? I can't believe it's a problem with the remote, but it is certainly worth a try.

I had the same issue, reset the battery in the key fob and it was all good.

From what I understand the smart key receiver is located in the trunk of the car (right side). Possibly the battery in the smart key is weak causing only the trunk lock to work, since it's closest to the receiver. I guess try replacing the smart key battery first. I've heard of batteries dying really fast.

OMG, you are a genius!!!! Boy, turns out that my spare key was in the car the whole time. I didn't think about it because I figured that the regular key fob was with me. I had it in a box because I was moving. I didn't realize that the car may have been confused and never activated the alarm system or for that matter, the auto proximity sensore (still thinking that I was still in the car).

Millions of thanks.....

Lol, I had an Acura before and I miss it a lot. I gave it to my sister who desperately needed a car at the time. But that was one of the first thing I checked--the battery. Seems to be fully functional. But thanks for the advice.

But I appreciate everyone's advice on here. It was helpful, regardless. This is a good lesson though. Oh man, I can't believe I was panicking. I even made an appointment with the dealer. Now, cancellation is in order.

It'll give you a long beep if you try and lock the car with the door handle button and the other key's inside; but it will still lock by pressing the remote.
