Extended Warranty- Lexus, Third Party, None at All?
I am soon (hopefully) to pick-up my new IS350 and was thinking about buying an extended warranty. The Lexus platinum warranty seems kind of pricey ($2,375 7 year 100K mile for the IS350). I was also looking at Warranty Direct and they are advertising a similar policy (bumper to bumper exclusionary policy that covers breakdown and wear and tear for the same mileage but costs only ~1300). I have read conflicting reports on this company's dependability. Does anybody have any experience with getting service under the Lexus extended warranty and/or Warranty Direct (or other 3rd party policies for that matter). Unless Warranty Direct is a total fraud I can't imagine that the Lexus policy is worth $1000 more. At least on its face the Warranty Direct policy covers everything that is not specifically excluded on a relatively short list. Or is the Lexus so reliable that an extended warranty is a waste? Confused and don't know what to do. Any thoughts??

Toby Rivers and Troy Dietrich are two names that come to mind (Toby was like 50 bucks less last time I checked)

The dealer in Geenfield, MA offers low prices and some local dealers will match that. I purchased a third-party warranty once, and that was not a good experience. Warranty Gold went bankrupt in 2006 ( I think) and no one got any money back, since the insureds were lower on the totem pole than the other creditors.

I got the platinum warranty thrown in when i bought my is350, that was a deal breaker for me so they did it for me. its great, 0 deductable and i have bumper to bumper to 100k stick wth lexus you wont be sorry.
I would never go with a 3rd party warranty because their just some random company and who knows what will happen to them.

i didnt get one for my 2006 IS250 and dont plan on it....weve had no problem with our previous cars so didnt think we need it...my first car was my dads old 1993 GS 300 which still runs great...with no major problems...only reason we sold it was bc it was time for somethin new...someone that works for us bought it so i know its still in good shape....

I just got an extended warranty for my IS350 from Toby Rivers at Lexus of Shreveport. Excellent to deal with. His price was the lowest I could find anywhere. I advise anyone looking for an extended warranty to use him. I will be using him for my next Lexus which I will be buying shortly.

Most extended warranties are not a good investment. Sure, if your transmission goes out it's great, but really, what is the chance with a well designed and built car like a Lexus going to the dogs? Remember, they sell them because the dealers can make money off them. I've never bought these extended warranties, and have never had a need for them.

If you can buy em for $50 over cost like Toby sells em for they're a lot closer to a good investment.
It's still insurance in a sense, but pretty cheap insurance given the cost of some of the parts on this thing.
