I think The main reason is where could you find all the connectors?

Perhaps places like ebay, carid, amazon, or any number of places that make pnp harnesses. I guess it really depends on which ones are needed, but the stock radio (on my ES) only has 4 connectors. Manufacturing a pnp go-between harness may alleviate many individual splices the OP had to make. I'm sure there's more to it than meets the eye, so hopefully the OP can chime in if he still reads this thread.

This might be the only option 10 years ago. Today, I think it's better to get an aftermarket system.

I tried an aftermarket system and although it looked nice i hated it! I couldn't navigate it and it sounded awful!

What aftermarket Nav did you get? I got the road rover unit a while back and sounds just like oem. There were complaints of some newer units not having stereo sound, but most units seem to be fine.

I bought the unit OEM navigation.

just so I understand, the wiring harness is not necessary but helpful?

navigation antenna. Is this not already built into the unit? I’m attaching a picture of what I’ve found on eBay. Can someone confirm if this is what I need?
