Question IS250 AWD vs. RWD?

Hello all, I'm new to ClubLexus. This is my 1st post.

So, I'm in love with the IS and really want the awd version. I'm not too worried about the lack of power with the 250 as compaired to that of the 350 (I've already got a M3 for that ). My question is, what are the real big "PROS/CONS" about running the awd vs. the rwd? I didn't notice any differences between packages/options other than the awd option. Are there any owners out there that can provide some input on this?

Thanks in advance!

The 2is doesn't come in fwd, if that's what you're asking. the IS250 comes in RWD or AWD configurations only

Oh, and welcome to Club Lexus !

FWD. hahaha yeah I knew that. Mybad. Too bad I can't edit the actual thread title.

So, are there any real big differences between the awd and rwd models other than the obvious awd?

i would have to guess, with awd you can drive faster in the snow than with just plain rwd...

I also have a question concering this matter. For the people with the AWD 250's. Does the AWD system affect what options you have for aftermarket suspension systems? Like say air bags or coilovers that are cranked all the way down.

Just found this out recently. There are no coil-overs for the AWD(correct me if I'm wrong). The only way to lower the car is with springs.

AWD has more limited options for suspension and exhaust.

It also gets significantly worse gas mileage, and is slower.

Really, the only reason to get it is if:

1) You plan to go offroad much

2) You drive a -very significant- part of the year in poor traction conditions (snow, mud, ice)

3) You live someplace you get -some- significant snowfall annually and have no idea how to properly drive a RWD car with good snow tires

Kurtz
I drive the AWD, and I wouldn't say that I get "significantly worse gas mileage" though it does have a deleterious effect since it isn't as high as what is stated by the 250.
OP states that he doesn't need speed anyway.

If your gonna drive it in the snow AWD

If you want a MT and want to run sexy staggered aftermarket wheel setups RWD.

Some people hate the 6MT but I love it. Auto is just to boring for me. 6MT is a lot more peppy.
