Do NOT use Black Magic Wheel Cleaner on your aftermarket rims.. especially if they are polished... the product caused my rims to haze soo badly there wasnt anymore reflection.. spent the last 3 hours polishing them out and rewaxing it.

was it the one that was safe for all wheel types? I think I used this or one of the others on all my rims and never had any problems. just need to make sure it says safe for all rim types.

yea.. it stated.. safe for all rim types... aluminum, polished, chrome, abs plastic??, anodized, powdercoated.. etc.. but these companies always have a disclaimer even when they say safe for all rim types.. "please test on a small area of wheel" so they cant take responsibility if anything happens.

Default Wheel care

After I had my Rays wheels powder coated, I asked how I should care for the wheels. The guy that powder coated them said that for any wheel that has been colored or coated, either paint or powder coat, it's best not to use wheel cleaner. He said that if anything use some water and car wash soap. I'm just assuming that some wheel cleaners contain chemicals that slowly break down the finish.

I was told by a wheel and rim repair guy that one of the best things to use when you clean your rims is "dish washing soap" because it is made to be soft on your hands when you do the dishes. so you won't develop those scratches on chrome or start washing off paint. anyone else hear of this???

By that logic you should just use a dedicated hand soap then that's even softer on the hands.

I used that too on my previous car with stock tires and everything came out fine as far as I can remember. Only issue I had was that the color of the tire seemed to fade after awhile...

But thanks for the heads up.

I put a nice coat of wheel wax on my wheels about 3X a year. The wax makes the dirt and other crap rub off easy on my wheels. Other than that, I don't trust anything else but soap and water to clean them off.

I do noticed some marks on my wheels after I use the tire cleaner. Lil dots of dark color residua on my wheel but it wipe off right away. So it should be ok? Unless its killing my polished coat?
